Another way to see church!

What We're About

A note from Pastor Gary:
Welcome to City View! We’re so glad you stopped by our site. When you visit our church, our prayer is that you will feel free to enter into worship and be encouraged by the Word, but also challenged to incorporate your Sunday experience into a Monday through Saturday lifestyle.

When we began this journey in August of 2000 with a little over 100 people gathering in a warehouse, it became apparent that God wanted this church to be named “City View” for the specific purpose of showing Lubbock and the surrounding area that we are committed to our mission:

“To love God,
To love people,
And to influence our city
and others to do the same.”

As you visit our website, you will see a city-loving/city-reaching thread throughout every ministry we sponsor both here and abroad because we are a church with a vision toward:

  • Becoming a catalyst in bringing spiritual transformation to Lubbock and West Texas.
  • Breaking the American tradition of being primarily a “come and hear” church to become a “go and tell” church.
  • Equipping our people to see themselves as full-time ambassadors of the Kingdom of God where they live work and play.
  • Endeavoring to influence pastors and church leaders through encouragement, friendship and training, to get outside the four walls of their church.
  • Penetrating the marketplace with kingdom principles.

If you have a question concerning our core values and belief statement or perhaps you’d like to talk with someone on our staff, please call or email us. We’d love to share with you and get to know you.

With the City in View,
Gary D. Kirksey, Senior Pastor

Our Core Values

Believing that Jesus’ Great Commandment “to love God and to love others” (Matthew 22:37-40) is the foundation for all that we are and all that we do, we will pursue Jesus’ Great Commission to “go and make disciples” (Matthew 28:19-20) as the primary expression of that love. Our core values grow out of this scriptural understanding and are the cornerstone of our congregation.

TAKE A LOOK AT THE MINISTRIES HERE AT CITY VIEW…

Cell Ministry

Acts 2:46 “And day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart”

Just as cells are the building blocks of the human body, we believe cells are also the building blocks of the spiritual body. We gather together as a church body weekly to celebrate and worship together, but the real ministry occurs in cells. It is in these intimate settings that discipleship can truly happen: people coming together for the purpose of meeting with God and relating to each other. It is a safe place for people to share their lives and to share the load of others. Cells are the bedrock here at City View and everything we do begins and ends in cells.

For information on ways for you to be involved in a cell group, call Pastor David Eppler and he will share with you the many options available here at City View. From Kids to Seniors, there is a cell group for you! For a list of our cell groups, click here or call the church offices.

Marketplace Community Network

When we study the New Testament, we discover that ministry did not stay in the Temple as of old, but actually penetrated the marketplace. The great sermon of Peter on the day of Pentecost actually took place on the streets of Jerusalem where three thousand people came to salvation. All through the book of Acts, we see examples of the marketplace being infiltrated by the power and presence of God and it radically changed cities!

Every month, business people from all walks of life, gather for lunch and an inspiring message from Pastor Gary. A network of friendships is fostered and from these luncheons weekly cell groups in workplaces are formed. These Marketplace cells are designed and structured to relate to people in the workforce, from car washers to bankers in the space of one hour, the average lunchtime. We’ve seen literal transformation in people from involvement in the ministry of Marketplace Community Network. For the latest information and events, visit mcnlubbock.com.

Area Pastors

When the Apostle Paul wrote his letters from prison, they were addressed to the church of Corinth, the church of Ephesus or the church of Philippi. Yes, he wrote to the city church.

Thanks to ministries such as Pray Lubbock, more and more pastors from different congregations and denominations in town are embracing the truth that we are indeed one church with many congregations. It has become a passion for City View to encourage unity in the city church whenever possible.

Conferences geared to minister to pastors and spouses have been particularly helpful, along with quarterly gatherings for fellowship, discussion and prayer.

Missions

Before being taken up to be with His Father, Jesus gave a mandate to His Bride, the church: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20

The heart of missions at City View is to see cities in other areas and nations transformed by the presence and power of God. With this in mind we support ministries whom we can come along side who have a similar vision somehow relating to city reaching. From right here in Lubbock to as far away as the Ukraine, we’ve had opportunity to see pastors and missionaries are putting aside doctrinal differences and coming together in unity to pray for their city.
